Turn Old CD’s Into Dumbells

While vinyl may becoming popular again among regular listeners, I don’t foresee CD’s experiencing any type of revived popularity in 15 years. So if you were wondering what to do with all those CD’s you mistakenly thought would turn into collectors items, then this may be for you.

Danny Seo took 150 CD’s he got from a Goodwill thrift store and recycled them into a dumbell weighing 10 pounds.

Add Cowbell to Your Songs

If the highly celebrated SNL skit VH1’s Behind The Music: Blue Oyster Cult starring Will Ferrel and Christopher Walken taught the world one thing, its that you can never have too much cowbell. But despite this fact, the cowbell is still rarely used to its full potential these days. And they wonder why the record industry is down!

Luckily there is a solution. The website MoreCowbell.dj allows you to upload a song of your choice, and then choose the amount of cowbell you would like added to the track. And as if that wasn’t awesome enough, you can even add some tasty vocal samples of Bruce Dickinson (Walken) for extra flavor.

Here’s the first one I tried out. Feel free to put yours in the comments!!

Sunny Side Up Remixes

If you smoke cigarettes then you are probably familiar with those quirky TRUTH commercials that attempt to expose the evil marketing tactics of tobacco companies while informing viewers of smoking-related illnesses. As an ex-smoker (70 days since I quit as of today) I certainly remember how uncomfortable watching those commercials was, I mean talk about a guilt trip!!

But regardless of what your feelings are on the commercials, I recommend checking out the TRUTH Website as the organization recently enlisted the services of several heavy-weight DJ’s to remix their Sunny Side of Truth jingles, including Z-Trip, Pete Rock, Mix Master Mike, and Diplo just to name a few.

Worlds Largest Record Collection

worlds largest record collection

Some of you may remember hearing about a guy called Paul Mawhinney several months ago when he put the worlds largest private record collection in the world up for sale on eBay due to advancing age and health problems. Mawhinney started the collection 46 years ago, which has been appraised at about $50 million, and includes more than 200,000 vinyl 45s, 300,000 compact discs and a total of more than 2 million recordings.

Well the sad news is, the eBay auction in february fell through, and even at a (reduced) asking price of a mere $3 million, no one wants to buy it. Or as he puts it “no one gives a damn”.

Here’s a clip from cinematographer Sean Dunn:

If you use Reason 4 for your music production, then head over to the Propellerhead website as you can download a free ReFill that was especially made to honor the legacy of Robert Moog. The ReFill giveaway was an idea proposed by Propellerhead in an effort to assist the Bob Moog Foundation, in addition to Propellerhead donating money themselves.

There are 20 patches in total, all of which were created by three leading synthesists who were asked to create a series of Thor patches inspired by Moogs innovations.
